What are Loose Teeth?
The term "Loose teeth" is pretty self-explanatory - teeth in your mouth that become loose when the tissues connecting them and holding them in place begin to deteriorate. When bacteria feeds on the sugar in our mouth and attacks the soft tissues causing them to deteriorate, we experience infections in the teeth, pulp, root, and gums. Of course, with the onset of infection the likelihood of developing loose teeth becomes inevitable.
The gums are the supporting structures for our teeth and naturally we expect our teeth with fall out in the later stages in life, but we give little thought to what can happen to them in the earlier stages. A lax dental oral regimen early on in life can cause the structural walls of the gums to break down in turn exposing them to infection and disease. Even one loose tooth can cause a mirage of other dental issues. However, a good oral regimen and regular visits to your dentist can limit your experience with loose teeth, and you will be able to enjoy their natural teeth for a long time to come.
What are the Signs and Dangers of Loose Teeth
The signs and symptoms of loose teeth are obvious if you suffer from this condition. Normally you can feel the loose tooth wiggle around when you're eating or drinking, and when you touch them with your tongue you will notice the tooth shift.
A few signs of loose teeth can include, but not limited to:
- Teeth wiggling around in your mouth
- Pain in your gums around loose teeth
- Pain at the base of the tooth
- Bleeding gums
- Sensitive to cold or hot
Associated Risks and Prevention of Loose Teeth
Losing one of your
permanent adult teeth, which is irreplaceable, is the biggest risk. This should
be a wake up call if you have a loose tooth that you are not properly caring for
your mouth as well as you can be. Other teeth in your mouth could be at the
same risk of tooth loss or severe decay as a result of having poor oral
hygiene. The cost of not following a good oral regimen can range from surgeries
to extractions to even gum disease treatment. You could easily spend thousands
of dollars if you need an extraction or an implant. Goodness, even a simple
tooth extraction could cost you a few hundred dollars. A little prevention goes
a long way and can keep your teeth in your mouth and your money in your wallet!
The best way that you
can prevent loose teeth is by simply taking excellent care of your mouth.
